Redskins – Eagles Keys to the Game #HTTR

eagles-redskins-mossThe Washington Redskins kickoff the 2013 tonight at home at FedEx Field against the vaunted Eagles and their hurry up offense. The good news is Mike Shanahan is 15-4 in opening games as a head coach so the odds are in our favor. The bad part about this game is the infusion of Eagles fans in the stands. IMHO, Eagles fans are the rudest, most obnoxious fans in the league.

In this fan’s opinion, what I am looking for in tonight’s first game of 2013…

When the Redskins have the ball:

  1. RGIII – While I applaud the decision to hold out RGIII for all of the meaningless preseason, how will the inaction affect his timing. How much rust is there?
  2. Penalties – While the Redskins stomped on the Eagles up and down FedEx Field last November, the Redskins committed 13 penalties in that game. You can’t kill your drives with penalties against Chip Kelly’s Eagles.
  3. Running the ball – Last year at FedEx against the Eagles, the Redskins ran the pigskin 34 times for 169 yards. With a healthy Roy Helu in the mix this year, I’m looking for the running game to take some pressure off of RGIII in this game.
  4. Win First Down – Second and five or less is a lot better than second and long and most importantly it helps sustain the drives and keeps the Eagles hurry up offense OFF THE FIELD.

When the Eagles have the ball:

  1. Baccari Rambo – Our ‘new’ safety has to play with discipline and keep everything in front of him. With Brandon Meriweather questionable, he’s our last line of defense.
  2. Brian Orakpo – DC Jim Haslett has to find a way to move Orakpo around. Keeping him on the right is going to neutralize him more than help us. Like Rambo, the defense, especially the linebackers have to play with discipline and not give Michael Vick room to run.
  3. Ryan Kerrigan – I liked the fact that DC Jim Haslett moved Kerrigan around in the preseason. How much of that will we see tonight?
  4. Secondary – Must play disciplined football.

See you at FedEx!!

ESPN’s First Take Discusses The Redskins RGIII/Shanahan/Dr. Andrews Triumvirate (Video)

Good discussion here from Skip Bayless and Stephen A. Smith. I have to agree with Skip and Stephen A. that Washington Redskins Head Coach Mike Shanahan is doing with RGIII exactly what they talked about – and that is a clear case of C.Y.A. when it comes to Robert’s knee.

Thoughts?
